Injectables and Fillers

What is Botox?

Botox has the ability to relax muscles into which it is injected. This relaxation may be partial or complete, depending on the amount of Botox used and on the relative strength of the muscle into which it is injected. The relaxation produced by Botox can last up to 3-6 months

Which wrinkles can Botox treat?
There are two different types of wrinkles on the face: static wrinkles and dynamic wrinkles. Static wrinkles are present even with complete stillness and lack of expression on the face. Dynamic wrinkles are those that appear or become significantly more apparent with facial expression. Botox is ideal for treatment of dynamic wrinkles of the face and is used to relax those facial muscles whose excessive action causes wrinkling of the skin. For example, the deep lines between the eyebrows (frown lines) are the most popular treatment sites.

Who is a candidate for Botox?
Any person who wishes to minimize the aging process around the eyes and forehead region with minimal down time is an appropriate candidate for Botox injections. Botox is not recommended for women who are pregnant or are nursing.

Does it hurt?
Typically no anesthetic is needed for Botox injections. A small amount of Botox is administered using a very fine needle. Most patients experience very minimal discomfort. Anesthetic creams and special cooling devices are available to increase your comfort.

How long will the results last?
Typically, it takes 4-5 days for the Botox to start to take effect, but it may take up to 2 weeks for its full effect. Results generally last between 3-6 months. As you notice the effects of the Botox wearing off call us and schedule your next appointment.

Suggested Treatment Interval:
• 1 treatment every 3-4 months

Botox injections are used to reduce wrinkles caused by facial expressions. Clients request Botox to have a more relaxed refreshed appearance. Botox wrinkle treatment is a quick and minimally invasive procedure consisting of a few tiny injections for relaxing lines and wrinkles.

No anesthesia is required. Although you may see a marked improvement, a treatment with Botox Cosmetic does not make you look like you have “had work done”. You can expect to see results within 5 to 10 days after your treatment, and the visible results will last 3 to 4 months. Galleria Aesthetics will help you determine which options are best for you. For some clients several dermal fillers and Botox injections are used at once to obtain the desired effects.

What is XEOMIN?

XEOMIN is a botulinum toxin that is used to treat adults with cervical dystonia and blepharospasm. It has been used around the world since 2005 and was introduced to the US market in 2010 by Merz Pharmaceuticals, LLC.

XEOMIN is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used:
• To treat adults with cervical dystonia to decrease the severity of abnormal head position and neck pain
• To treat abnormal spasm of the eyelids (blepharospasm) in adults who have had prior treatment with onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox®)

What is botulinum toxin?
Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. Botulinum toxin type A—the active ingredient in XEOMIN—is produced commercially from C. botulinum serotype A.

How does XEOMIN work?
XEOMIN is injected into muscles to decrease their activity. XEOMIN blocks the release of a chemical messenger—acetylcholine—that conveys the signal from nerve terminals and causes muscle fibers to contract. Not all terminals are affected by botulinum toxin, so the muscles can still contract, just less forcefully. This allows the muscles to contract more normally.

What to expect

How is XEOMIN® administered?
XEOMIN is injected directly into the affected muscles. The injection plan varies from person to person, depending on the number of muscles involved and the extent of their involvement.

How many XEOMIN shots will I need for treatment?
This also varies from person to person. Your doctor will decide how many sites to inject and the total dose per muscle based on your condition.

What are the most common side effects of XEOMIN?
In the treatment of blepharospasm, the 5 most common side effects were drooping eyelid, dry eye, dry mouth, diarrhea, and headache.
In the treatment of cervical dystonia, the 5 most common side effects were difficulty swallowing, neck pain, muscle weakness, injection site pain, and muscle/joint pain.

What is Juvéderm?

The JUVÉDERM® family of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers provides a smooth, long-lasting correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. This smooth consistency gel aids in restoring your skin’s volume and smoothes facial wrinkles and folds. It helps get rid of “smile lines” and “parentheses” (nasolabial folds – the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). Juvederm™ is made of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance in your skin that adds volume and hydration. Juvederm™ is eased under the skin to provide a smooth, natural look and feel that everyone will notice.

JUVÉDERM® is the first smooth consistency gel formulation and only hyaluronic acid dermal filler approved by the FDA to last up to one year from initial treatment.
